Most babies are born with a basic ability to fight off certain infections. When a baby’s immune system is unable to function properly, they may be diagnosed with an Immunodeficiency Disorder.
Treatments may include immunity enhancing drugs, extra care to avoid exposure to disease, and additional measures as prescribed by an immunology specialist.
The Utah Newborn Screening Program currently screens for the following Immunodeficiency Disorders:
Children diagnosed with Immunodeficiency Disorders receive care from the Immunology Clinic at Primary Children’s Hospital.
