Neuromuscular Disorders

Most babies are born with motor neurons in the brain that are able to efficiently control the muscles used for basic activities including breathing, crawling, and walking.  When these motor neurons are not working properly, a baby may be diagnosed with a Neuromuscular Disorder.

Early identification and treatment lead to the best outcomes for children with these disorders.

Utah currently screens for the following Neuromuscular Disorders:

Children affected by Neuromuscular Disorders are cared for by the Neurology Clinic at Primary Children’s Hospital.
